Canadians Hosting 2012 North Americans |
|
On behalf of the Atlantic J/29 Class, we write to enthusiastically
invite you and your crew to attend the Halifax BMW J/29 North American
Championship to be held at the Lunenburg Yacht Club from August 10 - 12, 2012.
The tradition of high quality J/29 racing in Atlantic Canada is well known, and
the Atlantic J/29 Class wishes to continue this tradition by hosting a first
class North American Championship regatta.
Planning for this event is well
underway. The Notice of Race has been published on the
event website along
with a host of information to help you prepare. Our
Principal Race Officer is three time America's Cup
sailor and multiple world champion Andreas Josenhans.
Andreas and his regatta committee will run an event
that ensures top quality race management, competition
and camaraderie.
Nova Scotia is the sailing capital of Canada, and the Atlantic J/29 fleet is the premier one design class. Our J/29 owners are former Olympians, National Champions and top level club racers. With more than twenty five J/29s within a 100 mile radius, strong attendance at this regatta is assured.
Lunenburg is also rich in maritime history. Sister town to Gloucester, Massachusetts, the people of Lunenburg have an intimate connection with the sea. The Lunenburg Yacht Club has played host to many international regattas giving them the experience necessary to put on a memorable North American Championship for the J/29 Class.
Immediately following this event is Chester Race Week from August 15 - 18, and the J/29 fleet will also be there as a one design class. Chester is Canada's largest keelboat regatta and is located about 10 miles from Lunenburg. The North American Championship along with Chester Race Week will give you a full week of racing and social events that we're sure will impress you.

It is that time of year again.
Please remember that the J/29 Class By-Laws stipulate ...
"No J/29 shall race unless the owner(s) and helmsman
are members of the J/29 Class Association and their National
Sailing Authority (US Sailing in the United States)."
